Sometimes my mom says the funniest things. Today while we were chatting on the phone I mentioned that I forgot to go to the store to get hair conditioner. I absolutely need it as my curly tangles get out of control without. My mom isn't the goofy or dingy type at all and she can be quite put together most of the time. It just gives me the giggles when she slips into her mom mode.
Me: Hey, do you know of a good conditioner I can make until I get to the store?
Her: Mayonnaise is always a good one... but be careful or you will smell like a macaroni salad!
Another one of my favorites growing up was the descriptive term catywompus. Example: Her hair was a mess and her skirt was all catywompus.
I can vividly recall the use of both my sister and my first and middle name when in trouble followed by "get your fanny in here". I'm not sure why, but I feel the need to use the term with my little ones now. Does anyone actually say fanny anymore? It seems like a slang term from the 20's. You know, when the big cheese requests that you bring your fanny into his office to talk about how your gams are the cat's meow. (translation, your boss invites you into his office to talk about your legs in which case you bring up political correctness and he looks at you like you are crazy because it's the 1920's but invites you to dinner and since he is the boss you go and since you are single he marries you and buys you a big ol house and a fancy car so it's really not a big deal but had it been later on in history he would have lost his job and quietly drunk himself into oblivion and you would have been terribly offended, but that is beside the point.)
Finally, when I was a kid my mom would get upset with other drivers and use phrases like "hey buddy get out of the way" or "hey Mr. who do you think you are". I will never forget the day she became frazzled and called some guy "butter" I suppose this was her combo of Mr and Buddy but it has always made me laugh. It's probably the 10 year old in me that still thinks its clever.
Now that I'm a mom I wonder what my kids will find funny about me.

Well Robin, I'm sure they would find this pretty funny. You are original in your writing and because you are, your reader's are picking up on your blog and liking it since they are adding it to their list of favorites. Yay Robin!! I always did like the way you put things into perspective. Have a great Friday.
hahahah I sooooo remember Butter! He was silly driver.
I was thinking Butter was a cross between Mister & Buster!
Cute post.
Oy, the things moms say. Have you seen the website, Postcards From Yo Momma? It's all real emails and IMs from mothers, and it's mostly hilarious things like the macaroni salad hair.
Whole heartedly admit to using "fanny" on a regular basis. My husband think it's "cute."
Different connotation to the word 'Fanny' over here - but LOVING 'catywompus' definately intend to use THAT one in the next 24hrs!
But when you got the first, middle and last names - watch out!
Psst - come see what I have for you.
You're a pretty funny whippersnapper, if I say so myself!
